How do I tell If my trailer has electric or electric over Hydraulic brakes?
I am going to be using a family members trailer and I need to buy a brake controller but how can I tell looking underneath the trailer if he has electric or electric over Hydraulic brakes on it?
You can check to see if you have a pair of wires running to the brake assemblies. That would indicate electric. If you have hoses running to the brake assemblies, that would indicated a hydraulic line. If the trailer is electric over hydraulic, then there should be some sort of pump-looking device on the trailer. This is the actuator.
If you go with a controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, it can be used with both electric and electric over hydraulic setups. Remember, NOT all brake controllers are compatible with electric over hydraulic systems.
